"Fantastic for night time visibility" 2009-10-25
By J. Hetzer
I bought these so that I can still go riding during the summer without dying under the desert sun. I have three green ones in front and two red ones in back. Having three on one wheel can give you that circle of light effect while cycling around 15mph, and it feels a little more balanced to me.

Some people have mentioned that it is a bit of a strobe effect when on a REALLY dark path/road, which is a little true if you are staring down, but otherwise it doesn't bother me.

I feel VERY visible with these on my bike, but it certainly not a replacement for a flashing front and tail light. I believe that it helps drivers at intersections be better able to gauge your speed as you approach.

I've had these a few months now and the batteries are starting to dim to the point where I feel they need to be replaced. It has probably been around 20 hours of 'Steady On' to get to this point. There are two small holes on the lights for packaging, but I used these holes with small zip ties to wrap around the spoke to deter people from grabbing them off my bike, or from bouncing off when my bike is on my car's rack (although that second part seems unlikely, they feel pretty secure).

I would've given it a full five stars if the product was a little lighter and maybe a little longer battery life.

(Most negative reviews seem to have ignored the GIANT YELLOW TAG on the product that tells you to hold the button down for 30 seconds to get out of demo mode)

 "Great little safety gadget" 2009-09-29
By AcornMan (Manhattan, KS)
With the days getting shorter and shorter, I find myself riding my bicycle in darkness more often, which is always a bit unnerving because I fear that I am not visible enough to motorists. Even a bicycle with a bright headlight and a good blinking taillight can still be difficult to see. This is the first device I've come across that provides SIDE visibility for bicycles. They're cheap enough that there's really no excuse for not having one (actually one on each wheel is even better). I feel much safer having these on my bicycle. They don't add any appreciable weight, they're easy to use, and they work great. I highly recommend them to anyone who rides in the dark.

"Yet another failed bike lighting attempt by a cheap product." 2009-09-08
By Boho Bird (SF Bay Area, CA)
Once you figure out how to turn the auto turn off feature, you'll get excited because the colors are awesome and its exactly what you think you were looking for.

After three nights, the batteries burned out - fabulous.

I used these lights for Burning Man and by the third night (and no, I did NOT leave them on all night) they were burned out and useless.

If you don't mind going thru batteries like water - these lights are perfect for you.

 "definitely worth the money" 2009-09-01
By Petrina Despeaux (New York, NY United States)
I bought these around 2 months ago, and they are really terrific. I live in NYC, where, in my opinion, being visible is one of the most important safety precautions one can take. These were easy to install (unlike others, mine worked perfectly after following the instructions), easy to operate, and are very low-profile when not operating, so I am not worried about them being stolen from my bike when unattended. I even find cars giving me a wider path when I use them. What made me decide to buy them in the first place was that I saw some otherwise reckless youngsters using the same lights, and they were quite visible from long distances. I highly recommend these.

"Better than the similar Swagman rack" 2009-10-13
By Pete H.
The similar Swagman was OK, but had a few problems. After a year and a half we switched to this rack. Everything is more solid. The finish is better. The bikes are a little further from the car, which is nice. The square tube which goes into the hitch kicks upward, which prevents the grounding on driveways we would always get with the Swagman on our 1991 Miata.

Also, the wheel straps are extra security. We actually lost a bike off the back of the Swagman (not this rack). The top tube hook wasn't correctly ratcheted down, which can happen with tall bikes on these racks (see the reviews). Wheel straps like the one on this rack would have prevented that disaster. That said, the clamp bolts on this rack are quite secure, so it's probably safe enough to skip strapping the wheels down for short trips.

The price difference is currently about $30, but it's money well spent.

 "Great Rack" 2009-09-24
By Gary Brooks
Bikes sit solidly in the rack supported by the wheels instead of hanging from a single point of contact on the frame. Very easy assembly (only needed a small adjustable wrench). I was a little concerned about lock pins staying in place during travel but have had no problems to date. The pins could be better wired to the rack (stronger wire used). I have cut one of the wires when it got pinched in the pivot point raising the tire holders in the vertical position. The ability to lower or lay down the rack is extremely useful. I highly recommend.

"What a great bike rack!" 2009-09-23
By D. LaRoche (Murfreesboro, TN USA)
Our last rack was the strap-on kind. It took forever to take on and off and the straps damaged our brake cables and constantly had to be tightened. We changed my wife's station wagon and decided to install a hitch solely for this bike rack. What a good decision!

Expect 30 minutes to put the rack together from the box. The instructions are diagram only, but I didn't find it too difficult. The hardest part of hooking it to your car is wrenching in the bolt which secures the rack to your hitch. It was a little cumbersome as my wife's car is small (1.5" hitch) with not much room to work with, and we didn't have a lug wrench to tighten the bolt. I found that, if you lifted the rack with your left hand to take pressure off the hitch, you could mostly screw in the bolt with your fingers.

Putting the bikes on is very easy. You don't have to lift them more than a foot or so from the ground. The wheels fit right into the easily adjusted wheel wells and an included velcro strap secures them. Another L-shaped bar slides over the top bar of the bike to hold it in place. The center-of-weight of the bikes is very low and that gives more stability than other hitch-mounted racks I have seen. I feel very comfortable going down the interstate with both bikes.

The hitch rack itself folds up and locks in place for storage. The whole system fits nicely in the back of the wagon. There is a plastic adapter for those who need to fit onto a 2" hitch.

 "Good Choice" 2009-09-03
By T. Mason (FAYETTEVILLE, GEORGIA United States)
I love this rack. You don't have to struggle trying to fit your bike (or bikes) on two poles. Easy on, easy off. And the rack holds the bike(s) very securely. One very, very important thing to remember with this rack; make sure you insert the locking pin that holds the verticle bar in the upright position. If you forget to do this your beloved bike will be securely dragged to death.

 "Solid, strong" 2009-08-21
By C. Crick (Atlanta, GA United States)
Ordered this bike for my son's fourth birthday. He loves it but is still not riding all the time beacause he saying he is waiting to get bigger. He sometimes has problems turning it around. As a parent, I would say that it is very solid, strong and good-looking bike. Would give it five stars if my son took to it as I had hoped. I would buy it again but would wait until my son was 5 years old.

 "great cyclometer" 2009-09-08

Installation was a snap and the features are great. I bought this unit because I use my bike on an indoor trainer and need the speed from the rear wheel. This unit has everything a serious bicyclist would need on a bike computer.

"Great bike computer at a good price." 2009-08-25
By Sam
Well, what can I say? It works and it's relatively cheap. The buttons and overall usage take some getting used to, but the readout is awesome and the backlight comes in handy. I use this on my Trek Y5 and I've put well over a few hundred miles on this computer. Works like a charm. Survives the rain. It looks great compared to some others!

On important note: You have to be on the "language" option to EXIT the settings mode. Beat myself to death trying to figure that one out.

 "Good Bike Computer" 2009-08-16
By L. Schutzman (St. Augustine, Florida)
The Sigma BC1606L is a very nice bike computer. It comes with both a front and rear mount for the computer and is very easy to assemble without any tools. The instructions are very poor. One thing to look for is that the magnet that is mounted on the front or rear wheel must be faced forward or backward, but not outward of the wheel, to avoid interference. The features are good and very easy to change with the touch of a finger on one of the four buttons. It would have been nice to package a second magnet so that the unit could be more easily used with two bikes. You have to remove the magnet from one wheel and put it on another with this package.

"I WANT to like this computer, BUT ......." 2009-08-08
By Dave (Maine)
I bought this computer a few weeks ago and have put maybe 150 miles on it. I WANT to like it (based largely on what previous reviewers have said), but I found it disappointing in some areas. They are:

0 The cadance feature doesn't work at all. The prongs that hold the cadance wire to the computer mount will not stay connected no matter what I try, in part because once you mount the computer base unit, your handlebars are then in the way and the prongs can't be connected securely. (I'm seriously considering duct tape). It's a poor design.

0 Instructions should be a lot more clear. They left out a few key points that would have really saved me a lot of time and frustration.

0 The display of mph in only .5 increments is a lot more annoying than I thought it would be.

Still, it's one of the few computers that met my criteria for rear fork mounting and a few other things, so I'll stick with it. All features seem to work fine, with the glaring exception of the cadance feature which has worked for a total of maybe 1 minute since I've been using this computer.

Bottom line advice: save the original packaging in case you have problems and decide to send it back. I'm keeping mine, but I can see where others might not.

"Great Speedometer, works at any speed you're likely to reach on a bike." 2009-07-01
By James C. Costello (Thousand Oaks, CA USA)
I bought this speedometer as a replacement for my car's speedometer (which would have otherwise cost me over $650 to replace). When the speedometer finally came in the mail, I was glad to find that it comes with two harnesses, for two separate bikes.

Although installation on my car was a long process and took about two hours, the second harness (which I installed to my bike) was installed and calibrated in about 5 minutes. It works great as either a bicycle speedometer, or on my car, although car installation requires the use of a much stronger magnet.

Without reading the manual, the menu interface is a little bit tricky at first, but it becomes second nature after only a few hours of use. Moving it from my car onto my bike is extremely easy, and the unit keeps track of how many miles I've gone on each, as well as how many miles I've accumulated overall. The display features large numbers which I find easy to read both in the car, and on the trail.

I've measured up to 80 miles per hour with this speedometer, and its measurements agree completely with my friend's gps unit. I drive about 4 hours a week and cycle about 1 hour every two weeks, and with two months of use, I haven't yet needed a change of batteries.

""Try Me" mode tricky to turn off, hard to fit to 16" wheels, but works well once set up" 2009-08-17
By HMSII (Chicago)
As other reviewers have noted, you have to hold the button on the light through a complete cycle to turn off the "Try Me" feature (the light has a little tag with instructions). I discovered, though, that I was rocking my finger on the button instead of holding it down, so I failed to cycle through the way the instructions suggested. I think it took me 3-4 tries to set the light so it would not shut off after 30 seconds. Now that I've done that, though, it works great. Note that if you have small wheels (any kids' bikes, some folding bikes), these lights are hard to work into the spokes. It can be done (I put a spoke light on both of my 16" wheels) but there's not a lot of space to work with and it might not be worth the frustration on top of the problem with getting the lights to stay lit.
