I like the flatter style tire levers, so was excited to see these for sale. But these are a bit too wide and it is tough to get a good grip under the lip of the tire to pop the bead out. The old, flat Specialized levers were much better, but I haven't seen them for sale in years, and sadly I am down to my last pair.

They're big, beefy, and more than up to the task of handling tire removal and mounting while on the road or at the bench. BUT, keep in mind that unlike the Park Tool TL-1 levers, you will *not* be able to hook a lever onto a spoke as a third-hand helper when removing a tire (although I suppose one could use the hole in the end with a cable tie or an 'S' hook as a substitute method). Anyway, check out the little hook on the TL-1 and you'll see what I mean; the TL-1's hooks are meant to latch onto a spoke on the first pry-off of a tire on a troublesome rim.

If you don't plan on mounting the TS-2 stand to either your own base, or your workbench, you should get this plastic stand. Without it the Park Tool TS-2 Professional Wheel Truing Stand flops around with a wheel in it and will not be easy to work with.



I suppose it should just come with the TS-2 stand but, Park sells a lot of shop tools to, gasp! actual bicycle shops and they tend to mount their truing stands to a workbench and wouldn't need this. As a home bike repair person you should buy it.

This is the stand to own. It's expensive but if after building a set of wheels you decide you don't want it, you can sell it on ebay for nearly what you'll pay here for it. They are that good.



I got mine to build a set of wheels, and picked up the plastic base, Park Tool TSB-2 Truing Stand Base and a copy of The Bicycle Wheel 3rd Edition. Visited my local bicycle store for rims, nipples and a wrench that fit. A couple of evenings and I had my own custom built wheels.



This wheel truing stand makes the job relatively easy for an amateur wheel builder because the self centering pincher gauge helps you automatically dish the rear wheel and correctly center the front. The whole tendency to make an egg shaped potato chip wheel goes away. It's not trivial but if you are handy with tools and can follow instructions and don't mind taking your time to make sure that you've threaded the spokes correctly in the hub, you'll be building wheels like a pro.



Plus once you own one of these stands you won't let your wheels get so far out of round from those potholes before fixing them, because, well it's easy with this jig.

Way back when, when I worked as a bike mechanic, this is the stand I used. You can dial in a pro wheel with it and turn around and do a kid's bike. It hasn't changed a bit in years. It is solid as a rock, simple, and easy to use ... assuming you know your way around a wheel, that is! It's self-centering (and accurate and fully adjustable), and the calipers will not jam or gouge. It is definitely the US shop standard stand.



Although this can be used in a vice, that wouldn't be my first choice, first and foremost because it will probably result in the stand being at an inconvenient height. Do yourself a favor and permanently mount it if you have the bench space.



Very solid, heavy steel, and the chrome plating is up to commercial needs. This stand will last for many decades in a shop and outlive you if used at home. If you are serious enough to do your own wheels at home, skip Park's home wheel truing stand and buy this one.

TS-8 requires assembly. When I first tried to assemble, the square shanks on the heads of the carriage carriage bolts would not pull into the blue uprights. As a result I broke the head of one of the bolts. A short e-mail to Park Tools and I had the replacement bolts in a few days. Park Tools gives great support of a great product.

This is a great truing stand. My last truing stand was freestanding, but the ability to bolt this to your workbench allows you to install a sewup and straighten the tire on the wheel easily and quickly. It adjusts easily to various wheel sizes. My experience with Park Tools has been universally positive and this is another great addition to my bike repair bench.

Park's TS-8 truing stand is well worth the cost. Comparable stands from other manufacturers have a tendency to be a bit on the flimsy side, while this affordable stand makes achieving a 'trued' wheel relatively frustration free. It is designed more as a horizontal truing tool, yet with some patience and attention, one can work the kinks out of a vertically untrue wheel as well. And for those that are wondering, it is mountable without modification (two mounting holes on the base allow for a sturdy mount). Another great product from Park Tool.

Unfortunately Mavic has decided to give their higher end wheels proprietary nipples, requiring a special spoke wrench, and providing a plastic one that strips the first time you use it...



Park comes to the rescue with a great tool. My only gripe about this spoke wrench is that where other types of wrenches will slip on the nipple and then rotate around the spoke, allowing you to turn the wrench as many times as needed with out readjustment, this wrench must be taken off and reattached to the nipple. I bought this wrench not only to make small adjustments when truing my wheels but to replace a broken spoke. Having to seat the wrench, move it a little, take it off and re-seat over and over again was a little annoying. Other than that, Park has once again made a great aftermarket tool that's sturdy with a good grip.



I caught this item at $10 with super saver shipping, too good of a deal to pass up.
