 "Great Spoke Lights" 2009-11-03

Got these lights for the kids' bikes, who ride a lot in urban areas where its important to be seen. Most other lights are front and back, so these are great because they cover the sides. The kids like the rainbow colors, and they are surprising visible for such a small light. Definitely a big step up from spoke reflectors, which don't do very much, IMHO.

"Very helpful for side visibility" 2009-10-31

I bought four of these (red) for my bike - 2 on each wheel. 4 per bike I feel is the magic number, they're pretty dang bright and noticeable. These should not be used as a substitute for a proper rear blinky light and front headlamp, but as an addition to those for side visibility. First time I rode with these at night, cars gave me noticeably more room when they passed. I'm sure most of them were just thinking "what the $@%* is that?!" It definitely gets that kind of reaction. I haven't had any problems with them running in the rain, either.

I should also say that I feel completely comfortable leaving these attached when I park my bike somewhere where I'll take my other lights off. They are low profile and look just a lot like basic white wheel reflectors in terms of shape, size, color.

Switching these off safe mode when I first got them was very easy. Not sure what people are complaining about because it's very straightforward and they work just fine. Four stars because I'm still waiting to see how battery life and overall durability will be.

"Fantastic for night time visibility" 2009-10-25

I bought these so that I can still go riding during the summer without dying under the desert sun. I have three green ones in front and two red ones in back. Having three on one wheel can give you that circle of light effect while cycling around 15mph, and it feels a little more balanced to me.

Some people have mentioned that it is a bit of a strobe effect when on a REALLY dark path/road, which is a little true if you are staring down, but otherwise it doesn't bother me.

I feel VERY visible with these on my bike, but it certainly not a replacement for a flashing front and tail light. I believe that it helps drivers at intersections be better able to gauge your speed as you approach.

I've had these a few months now and the batteries are starting to dim to the point where I feel they need to be replaced. It has probably been around 20 hours of 'Steady On' to get to this point. There are two small holes on the lights for packaging, but I used these holes with small zip ties to wrap around the spoke to deter people from grabbing them off my bike, or from bouncing off when my bike is on my car's rack (although that second part seems unlikely, they feel pretty secure).

I would've given it a full five stars if the product was a little lighter and maybe a little longer battery life.

(Most negative reviews seem to have ignored the GIANT YELLOW TAG on the product that tells you to hold the button down for 30 seconds to get out of demo mode)

 "Great little safety gadget" 2009-09-29
By AcornMan (Manhattan, KS)
With the days getting shorter and shorter, I find myself riding my bicycle in darkness more often, which is always a bit unnerving because I fear that I am not visible enough to motorists. Even a bicycle with a bright headlight and a good blinking taillight can still be difficult to see. This is the first device I've come across that provides SIDE visibility for bicycles. They're cheap enough that there's really no excuse for not having one (actually one on each wheel is even better). I feel much safer having these on my bicycle. They don't add any appreciable weight, they're easy to use, and they work great. I highly recommend them to anyone who rides in the dark.
